KUALA LUMPUR – The UMNO Supreme Council (MT) Meeting last night has decided to withdraw the support given to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin with immediate effect.
According to the President of UMNO Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the support given to Muhyiddin since March last year is withdrawn after getting two third of votes from the Supreme Council of UMNO.
“Thus, the support given to Yang Amat Berhomat Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the Prime Minister is withdrawn with immediate effect,” he said in a news conference tonight.
According to Ahmad Zahid, besides the failure of the government in handling Covid-19, economy and helping the people, UMNO will also not compromise with the government for belittling the monarchy institution in calling for a Parliament sitting.
According to him, based on the seven conditions of UMNO MT in supporting Muhyiddin last year, the PN government, according to him, has failed in fulfilling all guidelines presented by the MT on 11 March 2020.
Ahmad Zahid said, the withdrawal is based on the seven items decided by the MT last night.
It is the failure of the government led by Muhyiddin in handling Covid-19, abusing the proclamation of emergency for politics, failing to defend the parliamentary democracy system hence disabling all democracy practices of check and balance and managing the assistance and demands of the people.
Ahmad Zahid also said that PN has also failed to provide confidence and trust to the people in managing their welfare, failed in managing political stability and economy and belittling the decree of Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
At the same time, the UMNO Supreme Council also emphasized that it would not support any efforts in nominating Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the Prime Minister.
The decision is in line with the decision made during the UMNO 2020 General Assembly.
In a news conference broadcasted live on Facebook, Ahmad Zahid said that the Supreme Council of UMNO rejects any efforts to establish a government led by DAP-Pakatan Harapan.
In a five-page statement read by Ahmad Zahid, besides withdrawing UMNO’s support for Muhyiddin, he also requested the PM to retreat respectfully.
There are six UMNO leaders in Muhyiddin’s Perikatan Nasional Cabinet namely, the newly appointed Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein (Senior Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of Security Cluster), Datuk Ser Dr Adham Baba (Minister of Health), Tan Sri Annuar Musa (Minister of Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad (Minister of Higher Education) and Datuk Shamsul Anuar Nasarah (Minister of Energy and Natural Resources).
As of yesterday, only one minister, Shamsul Anuar said that he would obey the party’s decision if he is asked to resign from his current position.
Ahmad Zahid’s statement however, did not state the position of the UMNO ministers and those heading government-linked companies (GLC). –MalaysiaGazette
