KLANG – The residents of Taman Sri Andalas can finally breathe a sigh of relief after the Sri Andalas Sports Hall Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) in Klang located near their homes will finally be relocated to the Port Klang Multipurpose Hall this Friday (30 July).
The Sungai Kandis State Assemblyman, Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni delivered the good news today.
He said, the Klang CAC will begin to operate at its new location on Monday (2 August).
According to him, the decision was reached after several sessions of meeting and discussion with the Klang District Health Centre (PKD).
“The relocation is done at the request of the residents of Taman Sri Andalas, who feel that this location is not suitable as it is too near to the houses of the residents.
“We also see about 1,500 individuals coming here for screening every day. After two weeks, we see that there is still a high number of people infected by Covid-19 coming here,” he said during a news conference outside the An Naim Surau at Taman Sri Andalas today.
Elaborating further, Mohd Zawawi, who is also the Selangor Islamic Religious Affairs, Consumers and Halal Industry Exco said that the decision of relocating the Klang CAC was also based on the information from the Ministry of Health (MOH) on 23 July that Category 1 & 2 Covid-19 patients will be given the exemption to go to CAC.
He also found that more than 80 percent of the individuals at the CAC are those in Category 1 and 2.
“Based on the information we received, I see that a smaller hall could be used and I wrote to the Chairman of Selangor State Disaster Chairman and the Selangor State Secretary to facilitate in the relocation,” he said.
Meanwhile, when asked why it took a long time to relocate the CAC, Mohd Zawawi said that the Klang PKD needs a large space for CAC to operate.
“The relocation took some time as it involves location. The PKD needs a big space such as in Klang Sports Hall, with the space of six courts, thus, we couldn’t find another location with the similar space. This is the only one.
“However, after MOH announced that Category 1 & 2 Covid-19 patients only need to do self-quarantine at home, most of them would not need to go to CAC and a smaller hall would be suitable,” he said.
According to Mohd Zawawi, approximately 20,000 residents from seven residential areas here can also breathe a sigh of relief after this CAC ends its operation and relocates to a new space.
He added, the residents will no longer need to worry about their own safety and the safety of their family members.
The Klang CAC received a lot of criticisms and objections from the local residents as the location is deemed unsuitable due to the overflow and long queue of Covid-19 patients besides causing traffic congestion in the residential area. –MalaysiaGazette
