KUALA LUMPUR – The Ministry of Health (MOH) suggested to reduce the number of attendees for the physical Parliament sitting.
At the same time, the ministry also suggested to reduce the duration of the sitting.
Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the suggestion was made this morning during the Coordination Meeting for Special Dewan Rakyat sitting following the Covid-19 outbreak on 26 July 2021.
He said, the suggestion took into consideration of the current Covid-19 situation, screening result conducted before the Parliament session and to curb the spread of the disease.
“To ensure that the Special Parliament Sitting goes smoothly, all individuals must adhere to the SOP and existing regulation,” he said in a statement.
He said, as of 28 July, 56 Covid-19 positive cases have been detected involving two Members of Parliament, six accompanying offices and 48 officers from various government agencies.
Meanwhile, four close contacts have been identified and they did not attend the sitting since its first day of meeting.
“The positive rate is 2.7 percent. From the 56 positive cases, 39 (69.6 percent) of them are those who have not receive complete doses of vaccine or have yet to be vaccinated.
“Individuals who are tested positive are not allowed to be present at the Parliament. They have been isolated, given treatment and are under the Home Surveillance Order (HSO). This includes the close contacts of the positive bases before the Special Parliament Sitting,” he added.
Dr Noor Hisham said, MOH will continue to monitor the development of situation in the Parliament from time to time.
According to them the healthcare team from the Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur Health Department and the National Public Health Laboratory (MKAK) have been placed at the Parliament building to coordinate fever and symptomatic screening on everyone who enter the Parliament building.
“As of 28 July 2021, 104 individuals have undergone the RTK-Ag Self Test Kit screening using saliva samples and all were tested negative for Covid-19.
“If a Covid-19 positive case is detected among the individuals who go to the Parliament, investigation, including close contacts detection and source of infection will be conducted,” he said, adding that no Covid-19 infection has been detected at the Parliament yet. –MalaysiaGazette
