BANGI – The government will not compromise with anyone or political parties who are found to have violated the standard operating procedures (SOP) of the Melaka state election (PRN).
Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that the SOP announced by Minister of Health, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar on 24 October encompassed everyone, the dignitaries and the mass community.
“We will not compromise. The law is the same. I hope that everyone will obey the SOP,” he said during a news conference today when asked about two political parties being issued the RM10,000 compound for violating the SOP of Phase 4, National Recovery Plan (PPN).
Barisan Nasional (BN) was fined RM10,000 for launching their Melaka State Election Engine at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) last Thursday.
Meanwhile, PKR was also issued with the RM10,000 compound by the police during a mobile briefing session without assembly at Taman Krubong Jaya on Sunday.
The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA) was also fined after organizing a news conference in Melaka last Wednesday.
According to Ismail, the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) does not allow any election campaign activities during Phase 4 of the PPN.
“No one is above the law. Act 342 is clear. The punishment and offences were announced by the government despite we’re in Phase 4 of PPN now. The government had announced the SOP clearly.
“So, regardless of who they are, which party they are from, they will not be protected or be above the low. Actions will be taken if there is an offence,” he said.
On 24 October, Khairy said that any election related activities, assembly or social events including the launch of election engine is prohibited from 25 October until 27 November 2021 to curb the spread of Covid-19. -MalaysiaGazette
