MELAKA – Pakatan Harapan (PH) has several calibre candidates for the Melaka Chief Minister (CM) post if the coalition gets the mandate back from the voters in the coming state election.

The Selangor PH and PKR Leadership Council Chairman, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said that they did not name their candidate as there are many other capable candidates to fill the post other than the candidate for Asahan, Datuk Seri Idris Haron and the candidate for Bukit Katil State Assembly, Adly Zahari.

“There are many candidates that we can portray, and we will decide after we win. We have many eligible candidates and they have proved themselves in administering the state.

“Although Adly only had 22 months, he has a good record and he is likeable. Idris Haron ruled under BN and he has the experience with the people. We also have (former) Federal Minister and (former) Federal Deputy Minister (Pakatan Harapan).

“Not just two names. I believe that they can be nominated but I also believe that it will be decided by the PH Presidency Council to make a consensus after we win the election,” said the Menteri Besar of Selangor in a virtual news conference today.

Also present at the news conference is the Chairman Melaka State Leadership Council, Datuk Halim Bachik.

Yesterday, Idris said that the candidate for the Chief Minister’s post is not the current main agenda of the coalition.

Idris, who led three other state assemblymen from Perikatan Nasional (PN) withdrew their support for the Chief Minister of Melaka, Datuk Sulaiman Md Ali said that their focus is to win the state election.

“We have two former Chief Ministers, namely, Idris Haron and Adly Zahari, and several other candidates in the party. We are qualified.

“Everyone has their opinion on who deserves the post and I think, in 2008, we also did not name a single candidate. We have several candidates, including the election director.

Earlier, DAP urged PH to name Adly as the candidate for the Chief Minister post as the coalition cannot afford to make any more mistakes.

Its Secretary-General, Lim Guan Eng said that PH has made a mistake when they accepted Idris and Nor Azman Hassan, who were former UMNO members. Their action of ditching their party has caused the fall of Melaka. -MalaysiaGazette
