KUALA LUMPUR – The Cabinet Ministers’ Meeting has agreed to reopen foreign workers intake in all economic sectors, said the Minister of Human Resources, Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.
The foreign workers intake will be reopened for plantation, agriculture, manufacturing, services, mining and quarry, construction and domestic service.
“The Cabinet Ministers’ Meeting on 10 December 2021 has agreed for me to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with my counterpart from the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare & Overseas Employment, Republic of Bangladesh for the intake of Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia.
“The entry of Bangladeshi workers will be implemented after the MoU is signed,” he said in a statement today.
As the foreign workers intake would encompass all permissible work sectors and to prevent the spread of Covid-19, the Ministry of Human Resources will work with the Ministry of Health and the National Security Council to fine tune the standard operating procedures for foreign workers.
This includes, the quarantine aspect and we will not compromise in the health and safety aspects.
According to Saravanan, the Cabinet Ministers’ Meeting also agreed to postpone the levy from 1 January 2022 to 1 July 2022 to lighten the burdens of the employers. -MalaysiaGazette
