Landslide at IIUM dorm block, students evacuated

KUALA LUMPUR – 128 male students from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in Gombak have been evacuated from their dormitory after the landslide yesterday.

The Director of Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, Norazam Khamis said, based on the observation and inspection conducted by the department, they found that it was necessary to evacuate the site immediately.

“Although there was no new crack on the wall or floor, for their safety, all of them must evacuate the area immediately.

“It is unsafe for occupancy and they have been instructed to vacate the area until the land structure report and soil reinforcement is done,” he said in a statement.

   A site inspection on the landslide near the male dormitory at IIUM, Gombak was conducted by the Fire and Rescue Department and Institut Kerja Raya Malaysia (Ikram).

He said, further studies will be made by the relevant authorities.

A soil erosion inspection was jointly conducted by the IIUM and Institut Kerja Raya Malaysia (Ikram) after the landslide yesterday. -MalaysiaGazette
