RM34 million have been channelled to flood victims

KUALA LUMPUR – RM34 million have been channelled to the flood victims, said the Chairman of Special Task Force for Post-flood Activities, Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.

He said, the budget involved the RM1,000 Bantuan Wang Ihsan (BWI) cash aid for the head of households involved in the flood nationwide.

“As of 27 December 2021, the government has allocated RM34 million for 34,000 head of households in the states affected by the flood and it will be paid today,” said Mohd Zuki in a statement.

According to him, the amount is based on the head of households registered at the flood relief centres.

Meanwhile, the first meeting of the task force was held today and it was attended by the Chief of Malaysian Armed Forces, General Tan Sri Affendi Buang and the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.

In that meeting, the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) has mobilised the government assets and the assets requirement from the private sector and non-government organisations (NGO) for post-flood cleaning.

He added, the Ministry of Environment and Water has also provided temporary solid waste stations as transit in the affected areas.

“The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will help to ensure the smoothness of route for the cleaning engine to speed up the transport of solid waste to the identified stations,” said Mohd Zuki.

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that the BWI rate has been increased from RM500 to RM1,000 for each family during the North-East Monsoon, or those affected by the other disasters declared by the Federal Disaster Management Committee. -MalaysiaGazette
