GEORGE TOWN – A Bangladeshi construction worker was charged at the Magistrate Court today for murdering his lover on 4 December.

The accused, Kamruzzaman, 37, nodded in understanding on the charges read to him before Magistrate R. Manomani. Nevertheless, no plea was recorded as the case was under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

According to the charges, he was charged for murdering Sumita, 45, an Indonesian citizen.

The accused was charged with committing the offence at a residential unit at Sri Nipah, Medan Nipah, Sungai Dua between 9.30 pm on 4 December until 1.20 am on 6 December under Section 302 of the Penal Code. Upon conviction, he would be punishable facing the death sentence.

The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Mohammad Nazri Abdul Rahim, meanwhile, the accused was unrepresented.

The court then fixed 28 February 2022 for the mention of the case while waiting for autopsy and chemical reports.

Meanwhile, Kamruzzaman was also sentenced to five months in prison after he pleaded guilty for overstaying in Malaysia without valid reason and his passport has expired on 12 May 2019. The charge was framed under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and is punishable under Section 15(4) of the similar act.

The court ordered the accused to serve the sentence from the date he was sentenced.

On 6 December, MalaysiaGazette reported that an Indonesian woman was found dead with four slashes on his body, including her neck at the Sri Nipah Apartment at Sungai Nibong.

The blood-covered body of the 45-years-old woman was discovered by two Bangladeshi men at around 11.30 pm before they contacted the police.

The forensics examination found slash wounds on her ear, tummy, chest and neck. -MalaysiaGazette
