KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob issued the notice for a special Parliament sitting today after listening to the request of the opposition to debate on flood issues.

“We if still remember, we added one day to discuss about Act 342 amendment, many Members of Parliament requested that we should discuss about the flood issues.

“Thus, I wrote to the Speaker for a full day discussion on the flood as there are many confusions and accusations.

“I don’t accuse anyone there (opposition), although Members of Parliament (MPs) should be involved in the flood, but, I’ve never mentioned anything… I’ve never mentioned,” he said while starting the briefing on floods disaster today, after seberal MPs from the opposition wanted the special sitting to debate about the share ownership scandal by the Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Tan Sri Azam Baki.

He said, he would explain about the actual situation so that the people can understand.

According to him, the preparations to face the North East Monsoon (MTL) 2021/2022 was based on the instruction of the National Security Council (MKN).

Based on that order, the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), as the Secretariat of the Federal Disaster Management Committee (JPBP), will plan preparations to face MTL season every year.

“This time, I chaired the JPBP Meeting myself on 13 September 2021 and it was attended by all Menteri Besar, Chief Ministers, Secretaries to the State, as the Chairmen of State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), representatives from the federal and states agencies.

“The main agenda of the meeting was to present about the preparedness to face MTL 2021/2022.

“The meeting also agreed to allocate RM9.5 million from the National Disaster Relief Trust Fund (KWABBN) for the operations of MTL 2021/2022,” he said.

According to Ismail Sabri, the distribution included RM100,000 to each response agency such as ATM, PDRM, JBPM, KKM, JKM, APM and RELA; RM20,000 for each State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat at 14 states; and RM50,000 for each District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD).

He said, as a result from that meeting, on 5 October, NADMA had an engagement session between the Minister at Prime Minister’s Department (Special Function), as the minister responsible on the management of national disaster and all State Secretaries, as the Chairpersons of JPBN.

The session, according to him, focused on the need to prepare all disaster management engines at all levels to face MTL 2021/2022 and that was the role played by the Federal Government, to remind the State Government to be prepared in facing any possibility. -MalaysiaGazette
