Vocational college in Jasin closed, 26 students positive of Covid-19

JASIN – The Covid-19 cases among students at the Kolej Vokasional Datuk Seri Abu Zahar Isnin have increased to 26 cases. With the education cluster, the vocational college has to be closed until this Sunday.

The Health and Anti-Drug Exco of Melaka, Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said that the Jalan Kemendor Cluter has recorded another 15 positive cases compared to 11 cases two days ago.

“As of this morning, 26 people have been detected positive, including the 11 female students who have been tested positive earlier.

“The result was obtained from the screening on 104 individuals including the index case. The vocational college will be shut down until 23 January,” he said when contacted today.

According to Muhamad Akmal, from that amount, 48 have been tested negative, meanwhile, 30 others are still waiting for their result.

Last Wednesday, 87 students from two vocational colleges in Melaka were tested positive of Covid-19. 76 of the students were from the Melaka Tengah Vocational College at Bukit Katil, meanwhile, 11 students were from the Datuk Seri Abu Zahar Isnin Vocational College in Jasin.

However, the only the vocational college in Melaka Tengah was shut down while the college in Jasin was allowed to operate with tighter standard operating procedures (SOP).

With the latest development today, a total of 102 students from both vocational colleges have been tested positive and have been ordered shut by the Ministry of Health (MOH) after declaring them as the Jalan Kemendor Cluster and Jalan Telani Cluster. – MalaysiaGazette
