KUALA LUMPUR – 1,521 new Covid-19 cases were admitted into the hospital yesterday.

According to the Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, from that amount, 634 cases (41.7%) were in Category 3,4 and 5, meanwhile, 887 cases (58.3%) were Category 1 and 2.

According to him, Malaysia recorded 22,030 new daily cases yesterday.

Breakdown of cases:
• Category 1: 8,616 cases (39.11%);
• Category 2: 13,188 cases (59.86%);
• Category 3: 71 cases (0.32%);
• Category 4: 61 cases (0.28%); and
• Category 5: 94 cases (0.43%)

From the 226 new Covid-19 cases under category 3, 4, and 5 reported yesterday, 52 cases (23.00%) were unvaccinated or had not completed their vaccination, 111 cases (49.12%) had received two (2) doses of vaccine but had not received their booster dose and 63 cases (27.88%) had received their booster dose.

Meanwhile, 144 cases (63.72%) aged 60 years old and above while 64 cases (28.32%) had comorbidity.

Dr Noor Hisham added, within the same period, six states recorded the intensive care unit (ICU) bed usage exceeding 50 percent, namely, in Kuala Lumpur (77%), Kelantan (75%), Johor (66%), Selangor (62%), Melaka (59%) and Penang (51%).

Meanwhile, 12 other states exceeded non-ICU bed usage of 50 percent in Putrajaya (107%), Selangor (103%), Kuala Lumpur (90%), Perak (86%), Melaka (84%), Sarawak (81%), Perlis (76%), Terengganu (73%), Kelantan (71%), Johor (58%), Penang (56%) and Pahang (55%). – MalaysiaGazette
