KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will listed to the advice from the Ministry of Health (MOH) on the appropriate date and time for the 15th General Election (GE15).

Health Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar said, the election requires the public health to be stabilised before any decision is taken.

“I see that the party President has the right spirit. Although the grassroots of UMNO want an early GE15, in the end, he said that it will depend on the PM and he will not only consider opinions but also the national recovery.

“The oppositions wanted institutional reformation, but I also believe that the PM will listen to the MOH on our public health. We will be entering the endemic transition phase and it is better for us to postpone this complicated matter and the GE, until our public health is more stable,” he said during the news conference in conjunction with the UMNO General Assembly (PAU) 2021 today.

Last night, Ismail said that the UMNO Supreme Council meeting did not discuss about issues pertaining to the GE15.

At the same time, Khairy also thanked Ismail Sabri for understanding the current situation in the country.

“I think that is appropriate,” Khairy added.

Meanwhile, Khairy said that MOH is monitoring the spread of the Omicron variant in the country following the emergence of sub-units of the variants.

“If we look at the Europe countries, their infection rate that has dropped in the past is rising again. It rose again in the United Kingdom. I want to see after 1 April, when we have more relaxations, tarawih prayers, Hari Raya Aidilfitri and such, if it will increase again.

“The cases, ICU admission rate, I want to see this in a few more months if the situation is stable or not,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
