KUALA LUMPUR – Ministers and Deputy Ministers must be careful when answering the questions from the Senators to avoid being reprimanded by the President of Dewan Negara, Tan Sri Dr. Rais Yatim.
Today, the Deputy Minister of Human Resources, Datuk Awang Hashim was chided by Dr Rais for mentioning the words ‘Job Carnival’ and ‘holistic’ as English is not encouraged to be used in the Senate.
While answering additional question from Senator Jaziri Alkaf Abdillah Suffian, the Deputy Minister said, “Our plan is to continue with campaigns in the field, with permission, we usually say, Job Carnival.”
Dr Rais intervened and said, “Job Carnival, Pesta Kerja.”
“Yes, Pesta Kerja! My officers and I have been thinking about the right word for Job Carnival. We get our answer today! Remember, officers, Pesta Kerja will replace Job Carnival,” he said at the Parliament today.
Once bitten, twice shy, Awang read out his answer text carefully and he spontaneously changed the word ‘holistic’ to ‘keseluruhan’ while answering the Senator’s question.
The President of the Senate is well known for his strictness on the usage of Bahasa Malaysia at the Parliament and demanded everyone to follow suit. -MalaysiaGazette
