KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has forecasted that the hot weather may extend until this May.
The Director-General of MetMalaysia, Muhammad Helmi Abdullah said, the hot weather is expected to cool down by June.
According to him, the moderate La Nina phenomenon is happening now and the temperature nationwide is still within the normal range.
“However, the temperature may vary according to the places and earth’s surface.
“The Chuping Meteorological Station recorded the highest temperature on 9 April 1998 with the reading of 40.1 degree Celsius under the influence of the strong El Nino phenomenon.
“The maximum temperature recorded in Chuping for the past week was around 34 to 35 degree Celsius,” he said when contacted today.
However, he said, the maximum temperature in the Klang Valley was higher, between 35 and 36 degree Celsius.
He explained that no exaggerated temperature was recorded within last week.
Based on the record, the maximum temperature was slightly higher in the Klang Valley and rural areas of Pahang.
When asked if there is a possibility of drought, he answered, not at the moment.
