KUALA LUMPUR – Activist, graphic designer and satirist, Fahmi Reza has been summoned to Bukit Aman this evening over his ape wearing tengkolok and dressed in yellow attire graphic.

Fahmi alleged, he would be investigated under the Sedition Act following the artwork shared by him on his social media 15 hours ago.

“I have received a call from the police in Bukit Aman. An investigation paper under #AktaHasutan and #AktaSakitHati has been opened in less than 15 hours by the police over the #beruk (ape) satire I posted last night.

“The police asked me to go to the police station for investigation this evening. We’ll meet again soon, PDRM!” he said briefly.

Fahmi uploaded an ape graphic design wearing medals and keris on his Facebook, Twitter and Instagram yesterday. The attire was seemingly the official attire for the Malay Sultans and Kings.

The artwork was widely shared and discussed on the internet. Some of them did not agree with his action as it showed disrespect to the monarchy institution.

“As a citizen, we need to respect the monarchy, bro. Although I am a Chinese, I love seeing the ceremonies, culture, attire of the monarchy. This is the unique history and tradition of our country that cannot be found in other countries,” said 王偉 on Facebook.

Fahmi shared the graphic not long after the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah bought an painting of apes and frogs sitting in the Dewan Rakyat.

According to a post by the Selangor Royal Office, the Sultan bought the painting and hung it at his private study room. His Majesty planned to auction it one day to raise funds for charity. -MalaysiaGazette
