CYBERJAYA – A group of e-scooter riders at Taman Tasik Perdana are seemingly toying with death while making the roads their ground.
An observation by MalaysiaGazette found that most of the e-scooter riders were neither heeding their own safety nor the safety of other motorists.
It is more horrifying to see a group of teenagers with their daring act of riding against traffic in a large group, filled up the whole road, racing, crisscrossing each other.
The lenses of MalaysiaGazette also recorded some parents willing to risk their children’s lives when they ride together in the middle of the road.
A resident from Dengkil who only wished to be known as Malek said, he often exercise around at this area and the new recreational activity only emerged last week.
“I jog at this area every morning and night. I often see children, teenagers and even adults doing this in the middle of the road,” he told MalaysiaGazette.
During the interview, MalaysiaGazette’s journalist was startled by the sound of vehicles honking when some e-scooter riders rode on the right lane in a heavy traffic.
We sighed several times throughout our observation on the extraordinary valour of those e-scooter riders who were playing with death and did not care about safety.
Moreover, there were many turnings which limit the visibility of other motorists.
Although the area was brightly lit, the large trees at the area made certain turnings on the street dim.
Some e-scooter groups dominated the area without guilt, occupying the motorcycle lane.
MalaysiaGazette also recorded the dangerous act of them crossing the street using the right lane against traffic.
Their boldness raised questions as the usage of e-scooters on the roads other than area gazetted for its usage is illegal and forbidden under the Road Transport Act 1987 and actions could be taken against the violators.
In addition, the e-scooter riders had clearly created public nuisance, especially against the other motorists. -MalaysiaGazette
