PUTRAJAYA – The Ministry of Health (MOH) agreed that Paxlovid antiviral should be distributed to the private clinics and teaching hospitals.
Its Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin said that the distribution needs to be widened so that the Covid-19 patients can receive their medication faster.
“I request that we increase this. The usage of this drug was limited earlier, that’s why we only catered them to the high-risk group. Now, we increase its usage.
“We give them to the non-government health clinics because this medication needs to be given within five days of infection. We need to administer it fast. We also agreed to distribute this drug to the private clinics and teaching hospitals to increase the venues to administer the medication,” he said when met at the MOH Aidilfitri Celebration today.
Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob also attended the event.
According to Khairy, as of yesterday, 405 Paxlovid have been administered to the Covid-19 patients.
Commenting further, the Health Minister said that the increment of daily positive cases has been projected earlier.
Nevertheless, the overall infection is not serious when we consider the number of hospital admissions, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and deaths.
“In total, the RT has dropped to 1.04. The daily death rate is at the single digit value. Although there is an increment in hospital admissions, 55 percent were under Category 1 and 2,” he said.
He added, the people needs to accept that there will be ups and downs in the Covid-19 positive cases as the country progresses into the endemic transition phase.
“We need to accept the fact that there will be infection waves from time to time. The infections will rise and fall.
“In MOH, we look into the seriousness of the cases. If there are many cases but the seriousness is low, such as, not many hospital admissions, ICU admissions and die, it means that we can live with this virus. That is the current situation,” Khairy explained. -MalaysiaGazette
